The museums of Florence

San Casciano in Val di Pesa is a great base for your daily visits to Florence's museums (in Italian musei). Just get the coach and you will be in the heart of Florence in half an hour. In this page you have only links to official institutional sites of the museums and the Florentine municipality.

Many museums in Florence are managed by the local municipality and Italian State.
The Polo Museale Fiorentino comprises the following museums managed by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities: Galleria degli Uffizi, Galleria dell'Accademia, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Museo delle Cappelle Medicee, Museo di San Marco, Palazzo Pitti, Galleria Palatina, Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Galleria del Costume, Museo degli Argenti, Museo delle Porcellane, Giardino di Boboli, Museo di Palazzo Davanzati, Museo di Casa Martelli, Museo delle Carrozze, Collezione Contini Bonacossi, Corridoio Vasariano, Chiesa e Museo di Orsanmichele, Gabinetto disegni e stampe, Sala del Perugino, Galleria dell'Accademia collezione del Conservatorio Cherubini; and those villas: Giardino della Villa Medicea di Castello, Villa Corsini a Castello, Villa Medicea della Petraia, Villa Medicea di Poggio a Caiano, Villa Medicea di Cerreto Guidi e museo della Caccia e del Territorio; cenacoli and chiostri: Cenacolo di Ognissanti, cenacolo di Andrea Del Sarto, Cenacolo di Fuligno, Cenacolo di Sant'Apollonia, Chiostro dello Scalzo.

Apart from these there are many other private museums.

Buying tickets

Buying tickets in advance in advisable if you are going to a temporary exhibition or a crowded museum like Uffizi. If you want to buy them on-line let's be clear: the official site of Polo Museale is the only one where you can buy Uffizi tickets (and others exhibitions) without an extra commission charge, as all the unofficial ones apply an extra fee to tickets.

Musei Civici Fiorentini (Florentine Civic Museums) groups all the museums belonging to the Comune di Firenze (the local municipality). Visit the Musei Civici official site for detailed information about opening time and tickets.

With the Firenze Card you have access for 72 hours to many museums of Florence.

If you are travelling with children, we suggest a visit to the Palazzo Vecchio Family Museum.
