Arriving by plane

If you are coming in Tuscany by aeroplane the nearest airports to San Casciano in Val di Pesa are Florence's Amerigo Vespucci (code: FLR) about 30 Km away and Pisa's Galileo Galilei (code: PSA) about 70 kilometres away.
Pisa Airport is the main Tuscan airport and is better connected to many EU cities. European budget carriers are available both in Florence (Meridiana) and Pisa (Ryanair, easyJet, Tuifly).

Alternatively you can arrive in another Italian airport outside Tuscany. Nearer are those in Emilia-Romagna: Bologna, Parma (Ryanair flights to London Stansted), Rimini (to Germany, Austria, Russia, Romania) and the Umbria's one in (budget flights to Germany, England, Belgium).
Regarding cities well connected both by flights, highway and railway to Florence: Milan area has three (Malpensa, Linate, Orio al Serio Bergamo), Veneto region has Verona, Treviso and Venice (2 hours by train). Among the busiest ones, but more far away (3 hours to Florence by train) there are Turin and the two, Fiumicino and Ciampino, of Rome.

Outside Tuscany, we suggest primarily to look at those, because they are easier to reach or have cheap flights: Bologna, Venice, Perugia, Rome, Turin.

Direct flights from U.S.A.

For people from the United States of America: for the peak months, from June till August, Delta Air Lines has established a direct flight from New York (JFK) to Pisa (PSA). Otherwise you have to land in Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino (Rome), Malpensa Airport (Milan) or another European hub.

After you have landed you can rent a car, in all those airports there are several car rental agencies, for the list please consult the official site of each airport.

You don't need to rent a car at the airport

Car is not necessary to reach San Casciano village from those airports, you can get a train to Florence (Firenze Santa Maria Novella station) and then a SITA bus (coach) to San Casciano. Then reach Florence's coach terminal by urban bus or tram.
If you are going to stay outside the village, ask your lodger if there is a coach stop nearby your accommodation. If there is not, you should rent a car at the airport, get a taxi or a car with driver.
