From Florence Airport to San Casciano
Florence airport Amerigo Vespucci (also known as "Peretola") is 30 Km far from San Casciano in Val di Pesa.
By car
You can rent a car after your arrival as there are some car rental companies in the airport. Make sure you don't arrive when they are closed (usually after midnight), some close at 1 AM.
The journey is very easy as you can see here. Enter Autostrada A1, exit at Firenze-Impruneta than enter the Firenze-Certosa entrance of RA03 (a dual carriageway that connects Florence to Siena). The trip will take about 26 minutes.
Without a car
In the Vespucci airport web site there is a useful video that shows you where to go to reach the different services: bus, taxi, car service with drivers and car rentals.
A.1) by tram + coach:
starting from 2019, a new tram line, Linea T2 is connecting the airport to the centre of Florence. Ticket cost is 1.50 Euro as of 2023. More information on the official web site. Tram departures are just outside the airport. You have to get down at "Alamanni Stazione", then take the T1 line direction Villa Costanza and get down at "Porta al Prato". From there you easily reach Piazza Vittorio Veneto and get a coach to San Casciano.
A.2) by bus + coach:
Exit the airport and take the shuttle service (called Vola in bus, departures every 30 minutes). This shuttle service will carry you directly to the Autostazione SITA, a bus terminal in Via Santa Caterina da Siena, in the centre of Florence, beside Florence Railway Station Firenze Santa Maria Novella). It costs 6 euro, takes 20 minutes. It stops two times in Florence: the fist at Firenze SMN train station, the last at Autostazione SITA (coach terminal). It's better to get off at Firenze SMN then take a bus or T1 tram to Piazza Vittorio Veneto. From there you easily reach Piazza Vittorio Veneto and get a coach to San Casciano.
Please note that normal ATAF tickets are not valid for this shuttle service.
IMPORTANT UPDATE 2023: the VolaInBus/Firenze AirLink shuttle bus service has been dismissed in 2022, alternatively you can get the tram line T2 from the airport (see above).
B) by taxi:
take a taxi service outside Florence airport. We have asked the price to the two taxi companies and they said price would be about 60-65 euros (price in 2023); please note there is no fixed fee, price depends on length of time and kilometres. It is advisable to contact them the day before your arrival so you can book the service in advance (according to law, taxis can be booked only 24 hours before the service, not earlier). Check those Florentine taxi companies: Socota and Cotafi.
C) by NCC - noleggio con conducente (car rental with driver): differently from taxis, they can be booked weeks in advance. They are more expensive than taxis. The driver will wait for you at the arrival gate and accompany you to the vehicle.
